About the University:
Odessa National University is one of Ukraine's major universities, named after Ilya Ilyich Mechnikov, Nobel prize winner in 1908 for his work on immunity. Founded in 1865 by an edict of Tsar Alexander II of Russia reorganizing the Richelieu Lyceum of Odessa into the Imperial Novorossiya University, the University received its current name in Soviet times. It currently comprises four institutes, ten faculties, and seven specialized councils, and is famous for having the largest and oldest university library in Ukraine, with 3,6 million volumes, ranging from the 15th century to the present day.
